Peter Models the Plaid Pleated Shirt and Thai Fisherman Pants!

Today's the day, readers!

Click here to see my (unexpectedly polarizing) plaid pleated shirt and Thai fisherman pants ensemble over at the Mood Sewing Network.

BONUS: You'll also get to see how it looks with my Miyake leopard coat!  (Too much pattern or just right?)

After two snowy photo shoots, yesterday's rain felt like some kind of reprieve -- a sad statement on the weather these days.  I look forward to sunshine -- and warmth!

I think we all need to make some Thai fisherman pants this spring.  A sew-along perhaps?

Have a great day, everybody!

  1. Nooooooo! Love the shirt, the pants, you, the blog. But I can't stand the outfit. The coat makes it worse. Cringe worthy. My midwest sensibilities? Perhaps, but yuk - someone from Iowa has to tell you. :-)

    1. Note to self: Don't wear in Iowa. ;)

    2. I'm from Manhattan and this wasn't my cup of tea, either. Admittedly, I am somewhat conservative in regard to men's clothes, but I didn't like the colors, the prints, or the silhouette. I thought it was just me who was having this reaction.

      Takes all kinds.

  2. I actually love the whole outfit. The first picture is fantastic and I also love the combo with the scarf and shoes. It's a bit wacky but in a very good way and very much the style I love to wear! The only thing I will disagree on is that I don't think it works with the coat. This aside, LOVE IT!

  3. Gotta agree with Susan. Love the shirt....HATE the pants! And don't wear the coat with it....ever! Make another note....don't wear in Illinois either.

    1. Not in Toronto, either. The shirt is very nice, though.

  4. I love it, especially the boots with the fisherman pants. There's something about boot with some leg showing that does it for me. Which was why I was hoping you'd make a skirt or kilt. I'm not sure about it with the coat, but you can make a mental note that you'd be more than welcome in this corner of England.

  5. I love it! I wasn't expecting to like the ensemble, but it really works together. Keep wearing it in NY!

  6. Absolutely LOVE the combo, especially with the boots. Love the print clashes, they work extremely well!

  7. I love, love the shirt, it's just gorgeous!

  8. I love each element of this outfit, but do not like them worn together. Although in close up the fabric of the shirt has the same colour in it as the pants, this just isn't apparent from any distance. And the shape and style of the shirt is wrong for those pants.

I think if you wear each of them with a plain colour then they will look great. So you have two new outfits rather than one!!

And the coat is marvellous, but again - not with these clothes.

  9. You could get away with the combination of the pants and shirt in Florida. I am planning to make a pair of the Thai pants for my youngest son (once I finish the wedding sewing for oldest son). Thanks for the inspiration

  10. The first picture screams HIGH FASHION to me! At first glance, I thought it was some random male model... You sly devil: you fooled me good!

Both garments are great, yet the shirt is really special. I think the boots, the pattern clashing, the round specks and the scruffiness makes it very current and fashion forward. Not so sure about adding the coat, however, but who am I to tell you what to do?

  11. Love the combination! The shirt is stunning and the pants are fun and they go together so well. But not with the boots to my mind, the pants need something less heavy like a sandal or sneaker like in the last photo - says me south of the equator in the middle of a hot summer! And how good will the pants look with just a tshirt so you can see the neat wrapping at the top? I'm tempted to make a pair myself!

  12. Looks great! My fav is the one with the scarf and umbrella. I'm not quite feeling the look with the coat; but, it might grow on me. :)

  13. Stand up collar! Hooray! Now, I will whisper tuxedo collar shirt in your ear :)

  14. That shirt is truly lovely, and there's definitely no better way to cheer yourself up than by wearing colourful pants.
Wasn't sure how I felt about them combined, until I saw the orange scarf! Such a cool outfit!

  15. Damnit Peter, you've broken the camel's back! You have unwittingly given me the perfect project for that striped two tone linen fabric over at Joann's. I'll look like a beached baby whale but I think linen fisherman's pants are just the thing. Whales need clothes too, right?

  16. One of my fave outfits of yours so far Peter :)

  17. Love the shirt and pants. You really have changed your look, the goatee, round glasses and you don't look like Peter! But the coat, although I love it by itself and especially with that Russian hat, does nothing for me added to the outfit. Strike out Ohio also.

  18. The shirt is fantastic very impressed but the pants need to be a lot wider. Use the issey patterns it's all in the cut.

  19. Separately the pieces work, but in combo they make me cringe.
That being said, the photo with the umbrella and scarf would make a great poster and title it "Eclectic Style is a Fine Art" or something similar.

  20. I actually like the whole outfit. It is something I can see a lot of young guys wanting to wear. It is different.

  21. Oh, dear. I admire your work tremendously, but these pieces just don't work together. The shirt with the pants truncate your legs, making you appear shorter and broader than you are. Additionally, with the shirt untucked, the pants don't read "Thai fisherman," but instead say "cropped pants." The wrap detail is lost underneath the shirt. That said, the shirt is fabulous! Wish I could pleat/tuck as accurately as you!

  22. Love the outfit especially with the pashmina.

  23. I love the whole outfit. Your confidence is the best accessory too! I am intrigued by the pants.

LOVE the shirt, I think the idea of pleating plaid is really cool. What a neat effect! Not super crazy about the pants(though I do really like the cut), but I think you're workin' it!
